CD "Hommage à Albert" von Acid Test

In 1938, the Basel chemist Dr Albert Hofmann discovered lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD for short, while investigating ergot alkaloids. However, it was not until 16 April 1943 that he accidentally became acquainted with the effects of this substance and experienced the first LSD trip in history. Three days later, on 19 April 1943, he took LSD again, this time with conscious intent.

The 50th anniversary of this event was celebrated with a ceremony in Basel on 17 April 1993.
The group Acid Test, consisting of Christian Rätsch, Hans Cousto, Steve Schroyder, Jens Zygar and Gary Thomas, was formed especially for this occasion and composed the album "Hommage´å Albert". They played the music live at the anniversary concert. The music is a realisation of the planetary constellations given on 16 and 19 April 1943, with the planetary angular relationships determining the sound frequencies of the individual tracks.
